Tips to Keep in Mind When Reestablishing Credit after Bankruptcy

Many factors are taken into consideration when companies are determining whether to extend credit to someone who has just declared bankruptcy-or even someone who has declared it a while ago. Stability is the number one factor that lenders look at following credit checks. Therefore, if you are looking to reestablish credit, you should do the following:

  • Do not change jobs without a good reason. Holding the same job with the same company for an extended time shows stability.
  • Keep the same address. Unless you lose your home in the bankruptcy, keep the same address after a bankruptcy to show that you are a stable individual.

Credit is an important part of life these days. It not only affects whether you can obtain a loan or a credit card, it also is used for determining rates for car insurance, for qualifying whether you need to prepay for cell phone use, and even for judging whether you qualify for certain jobs. Credit checks are run for a variety of reasons, and poor credit can limit you greatly. If you use these methods, your new financial freedom will continue and you will feel good about being able to pay your debts!
